Staff at Cowes Floating Bridge wanted to mark the 80^th anniversary of VE Day and sought permission to suspend charges for the day and ask passengers instead to make a contribution towards the Royal British Legion. Cllr Jordan agreed for the team to support this worthwhile cause. On 8^th May 2025, with the Floating Bridge bedecked with VE Day bunting, the team were overwhelmed by the enormous generosity of the public raising a whopping £2,600 for the Royal British Legion. The cause was particularly poignant for some of the longer-standing Floating Bridge staff, as their much-missed colleague Dave Todd, was a tireless fundraiser for Ryde Royal British Legion.

The day was made extra special by a visit from Tilly a 1940’s tea car manned by its very own ARP Warden.

The staff would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Floating Bridge passengers and they felt this illustrates that the Community can still pull together and conjure up the wartime spirit to support a fantastic cause.
